Roof-deicing clip adhesion and installation temperature

Use the mounting system specified for the cable and roof surface.

For the ET-SR self-regulating roof/gutter system, the installation manual says double-sided mounting tape must be applied at temperatures above 40°F (4.4°C), using the specified primer before the pad. This is a tape-application limit; the cable’s separate minimum installation temperature is 0°F (−18°C).

The pad and clip need a suitable contact surface. A ribbed, corrugated or curved roof profile can prevent a secure bond. Do not attach a pad across ridges or assume a different adhesive will make an unsuitable surface acceptable. Match the roof material, clip, primer and attachment method to the approved project layout.

If a clip releases, isolate the circuit and inspect the cable and attachment before restoring service. Do not improvise with a generic “Surebond” product: the earlier article did not identify a specific adhesive or compatible roof assembly. Different cable systems have different restrictions; the constant-wattage kit manual prohibits exposing its cable to glue/caulk/adhesive.
